At first I planned to do the 7-day detox program just to try it out before I go for the big thing but doc advised me to do the 28-day if I want to see results.

My first day of waking up at 6am was quite easy, surprisingly. Thereafter it was a piece of cake to sleep before 10pm. I love the routine! Never thought I could get back to it this easy. No cravings for alcohol so far, another big bonus.
Main thing is to change my horrendous lifestyle of sleeping so late, drinking, rushing off every morning, eating out like nobody's business and missing breakfast! Urgh. My skin was getting real dry, pimply and flaky. My white hair was increasing by the hundreds. Not funny. Puffiness of the face when I wake. The thought of the aging process being irreversible was starting to hit me. I'm 38.
First day, second day, third day, fourth day was the same every morning. Treatment at 7am or 7:30am where Mary applied medicated oil on my head, face and body. The names of the oils are:

Eladi thilam for face
Neelibhringadi coconut oil for the hair

Muriveena + Karpooradi for the body

Neelibhringadi Ayurvedic Hair

OilNeelibhringadi thailam, an Ayurvedic herbal hair oil manufactured in Kerala comes as a permanent solution to hair care problems. Apply it on scalps on alternate days to ensure abundant, lustrous, dandruff free, healthy hair.Neelibhringadi coconut oil is prepared with herbs like Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis), coconut milk, Eclipta alba, Cardiospermm halicacabum, Centella asiatica, Bacopa monnieri, Indigofera tinctora, Glycyrhiza glabra, Abrus precatorius.Based on coconut oil Neelibringadi hair oil gives luster and a pleasant smell to hair. Neelibhringadi coconut hair oil prevents hair loss, prevents dandruffs, and fights premature graying of hair.

Eladi Thailam

Prescribed in Skin Problems, Good for itching, stretch marks. It brings glow to the skin. It is very effective in pigmentation. Application: Slowly apply and massage it over the body.

Murivenna Oil
Murivenna is a famous Kerala Ayurveda massage oil that helps reduce pain, aches, cuts, swelling in joints, broken bones or fractures, and contains powerful healing properties. Application of Murivenna Oil to the body encourages toxins to the surface.
Karpooradi Oil
This oil contains tree camphor, one of the magical healers of nature, used since generations. If you feel tired, if you feel that you have no energy, karpooradi tailam is the best answer for you. It wakes you up and makes the body active. Karpooradi tailam is known to regulate the body temperature driving away mood changes and sluggishness. Tree camphor has been used for generations in religious ceremonies and for medical purposes. Tree camphor is mixed and finely pulverized with ajowan and added to an ajovan decoction. The production process is carefully monitored and so that the natural aroma and the medical effects blend with the sesame oil. This blending of herbs takes 4-5 days in a low heat. The karpooradi tailam so prepared has a unique consistency. The Karpooradi Tailam soothes the muscles and nerves and relaxes the body. The mystical effect of the Karpooradi Tailam produces a feeling of calmness and tranquillity in the body.

After 40 mins of massage I'm put in small seated encased steamer for 10 mins. Psychological or real I felt toxins were flushed out of my skin that were dislodged by the Murivenna oil.
I take my shower using the mung bean flour mixed with herbs. A natural cleanser that amazingly absorbs and dissolves oil like magic! When I have time I will leave the mung bean paste to partially dry before rubbing it off my skin and then wash it off with water. No soap is required. On the fifth and sixth day Mary performs a small enema. Was feeling a tat bit nervous before that but when it all came out in the loo it felt so good! It was like diarhea without the painful cramps.

On the 7th day, which is today, was the big enema. I was even more nervous because previously a friend of mine did it and had an unpleasant reaction. She almost fainted and then suffered weeks of painful soar throat. She swore she'd never to do it again. I was anxiously waiting for that moment to come and... nothing. Few minutes later all the accumulated gunk in the gut was flushed out.

Strict vegetarian diet and change of lifestyle must be seriously adhered to for the entire duration of the treatment. Alcohol consumption, smoking, caffeinated beverages and cold foods are strictly not allowed. The patient must sleep before 10pm and wake before 6am in order for homeostasis to work. Rest is essential as during this time your body needs all the energy it can get with the help of the herbal remedies to repair and restore your internal organs and eliminate environmental toxins.

Take care of your body and your body will take care of your mind.

<br I've been 40kg since high school. And SO... one day a friend introduced me to Ayurveda... my first experience was some nice and relaxing yoga with Dr Radha who's a true physician who genuinely cares about people. I was very inspired by him and quickly made an appointment for a consultation.

After a minute or so of reading my pulse he told me I'm a Vata dosha type... the type who cannot put on weight and over eating makes it worst! (mhmm) A super active mind (mhmm) do too much at one time (mhmm)... (mhmm) (mhmm)

So, all the yucky symptoms I've been suffering from apparently is just signs of imbalances... He said I need to sleep by 10pm and wake at 6am everyday. I seriously didn't think that was possible taking into account my years and years of insomnia. I thought for a second, how on earth would it be possible for me to doze off like a baby by 10pm?? 10pm! That's when my day starts... I'm a creative person, my brain chemicals only kicks off after 11pm! No, I can't sleep at 10! Dr Radha gave me a disapproving look and showed no sympathy at all as if he didn't hear what I was telling him and went on to prescribe me with some herbal medicine. Alright I thought, if I want to get well I better be obedient.

Oh he also told me I should eliminate meat from my diet. Completely if possible. And eat all the plants in the world... tho he didnt want to specify the food groups for my dosha type but through my research I found there are specific food groups for the three doshas and surprisingly, the one for Vata type are mostly my favorite foods. Now it makes sense why I prefer banana and papaya to apples and oranges. They're grounding for air types like me!

a REAL park in kuala lumpur

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Once sprouted you should eat them right away. depending on where you live, in a hot and humid climate like malaysia it only takes one day to sprout! i soaked them at 8pm, the image on top was taken at 11am the next morning.

Comfort Porridge

There are 4 types of roots in this delicious porridge. I love roooots! Ohh.. this was the most comforting porridge I've ever had. In ayurveda, roots are superb for vata dosha, as vata is the element of air it makes sense that roots are a favourite of a floaty hyperactive vata girl.

One of them roots I've no idea what it is?

Cut carrot, lotus root, turnip and a potato-like root (in cantonese it's called 'wai san') into bite size. Alternatively you can replace with potato :). Use your stomach as a measurement gauge as to how much to cook. Chuck them together with 5 red dates into a pot filled with 1 ltr water and boil for 10 minutes in low fire and let it simmer for a good hour. For flavour use any of your favourite stock, I usually use mushroom stock.

Vongole

It was a challenge trying to cook pasta with just a chinese soup spoon, a fruit knife without a chopping board and one pot.

Spaghetti alle Vongole Recipe

This recipe serves 4.

Ingredients (use organic only)

2 kg small clams
2 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon ginger
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
2 tablespoons sliced spring onion
1 teaspoon chopped dried chillies
400 g spaghetti or linguine

half a glass of dry white wine
sea salt and pepper

PREPARATION

Scrub the clams under running water, discarding any that don't close when you tap them.

Bring a small amount of water (depth of 1 cm or half an inch) to the boil in a pan. Add the clams, clamp on the lid and shake the pan over the heat for a few minutes until all the clams have opened (throw away any that refuse to open).

Remove the clams and boil the cooking liquid down until it has reduced by half. Keep to the side. Take the meat out of the clam shells and discard; keep about twelve in their shells for a garnish.

Cook the pasta until it's very nearly ready; drain it, add a little olive oil to prevent it sticking, and cover to keep warm.

Heat the olive oil in a pot/pan and fry the garlic and ginger until translucent - make sure they don't go brown. Add the chili and parsley in the pan. Add the clams, bring up the heat and pour in the wine; cover and shake over the heat for a few minutes until all the clams have opened (pick out and discard any that refuse to open).
Add the drained pasta to the pan and mix everything around; put the lid on for another minute or so until the pasta is ready to eat.

rice noodle in ginger wine mushroom soup

Sorry, no shots of the cooking process and ingredients this time, I was starving. You don't have to use the exact ingredients in this recipe... just make sure the main ingredients are fresh and crunchy... if I had apples I'd have dunked them in too you know what I mean? Just to give you an idea... carrots, cucumber, celery, french beans, turnip, asparagus etc ... As for the chili paste the most important ingredients are the chilies, shallots and garlic. If you like it with gravy just add a cup of water after throwing in the main ingredients into the claypot. Add sea salt and light soya sauce to taste. Go experiment!

vege brown porridge

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; "Prepare a liter of ginger drink each day and sip before meal to prepare the stomach for proper digestion. If the food doesn't get digested it becomes bad food" (adding lemon is my own concoction)

I always knew that our body needs enough digestive juice to digest the food but my lifestyle and zero self discipline doesn't seem to allow me to eat at the correct time and correctly most of the time.

The food that we eat like rice, salad or soup can't be used by our body for nourishment unless broken down to molecules of nutrients before they can be absorbed into blood and carried to cells throughout the body. We all take our digestive tract for granted, the moment we chuck food into our mouth we only care about the taste, once in that's it, we don't care what it does to our body and what happens to it or whether it comes back out the way it should.

In summary... digestion begins in the mouth and ends in the small intestine. Saliva contains an enzyme that digest the starch from food into smaller molecules. Stomach acid and enzyme in the stomach digests protein. Pancreas produces enzymes to break down carbohydrate, fat, and protein. Liver produces biles to melt away fats! Yes, so make sure your liver and bile ducts are in working order, ladies!

Punarnava Ayurveda Centre . Two weeks ago Cheryl told me her sister, a medical student, is a fan of ayurvedic medicine and she discovered Punarnava in Bangsar, my ear sprang. i've been looking for an ayurveda centre for the longest time but just couldn't find an authentic and non commercial one in KL.

The centre offers free yoga lessons as part of the treatment. I had my first lesson last Wed and fell in love with yoga all over again. I had many bad yoga experiences previously you see. Tho it was a nightmare waking up at 7am! ...but I must say it was absolutely worth it. I was so excited I couldn't wait for the next lesson on Fri.

Friday: Ahhh... bliss...

I had to make an appointment to see Dr Radha immediately. Can't wait to find out my body type. Oh, Wei Ming, she's also keen on natural healing so I towed her and hubby Luke along for an hour session with Dr Radha. It was storming on Sat afternoon but we didn't care, we had to get to the centre rain or shine.

So I'm 'air' type. Vata Dosha is the principle of movement in all living organisms and is a combination of the elements: air and space. Vata Dosha is closely related to the nervous system...

Oh guess what!? I'm asked to be a vegetarian! as in I can only eat 100% plant based products. as in no pork chops and bacon! as in no eggs! as in no fish or seafood! What do I do, what do i do!?! the best part... I have to sleep at 10:30pm and wake at 6am. I've not woke at 6am since high school.

Thanks CHICKpearl!!

BEFORE

AFTER
CHICKpearl showed me how to cut my own hair
